My Body is God’s Temple – Is Your Body The Sacred Temple of God?

The Bible teaches us that a healthy body is God’s Temple and the temple of the Holy Spirit who comes to dwells in us when we purify the heart and mind.  Is your body the temple of God? Sacred and Holy?

Today I’ll dive a little deeper into the complexities of who we are in Christ. May the content bless you with new insights that should inspire you to honor God with your life and better care for His vessel (Body).

As it is written, “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

THE BODY IS GOD’S TEMPLE

God's Temple is more than a building. It's a healthy body.

For just a moment, think of your physical body as a brand-new sports car. If you don’t take care of it, the cost of maintaining the car will be way more than you ever expected. However, if you put only the best fuel into your tank, then you can put your foot on the gas and experience the exhilaration.

As it is written in the book of clichés, “What you put in is what you get out.”

Treating your body like it’s God’s temple is important. Do you have a healthy body mass index? Prioritizing your health will lead to other blessings in life. We all know a healthy body is a healthy mind. But many people lose sight of what’s important. They want to know what’s the healthy body fat (%) percentage they need to achieve to look “perfect”. As if measuring body fat % makes any difference…

Bodybuilding is a vanity-based sport to many, but to some if can be a form of art. Like those who follow a natural bodybuilding program and lifestyle. These athletes embody discipline, patience, purity, and the blood, sweat, and tears required to do something amazing. These athletes go against the flow and they do not conform to the ways of this plastic world. These athletes inspire others to get up and walk.

My mission as a natural bodybuilding coach and Christian mentor is to shine a light on the importance of your body as a sacred vessel wherein God can live and abide. Remember God cannot have unity with darkness and deceit, which means if your house (Temple Body) is defiled, He will not come and make His dwelling place in your heart. I pray that through my words you can be inspired to be purified.

God asks this question, “What fellowship has light with darkness?” – 2 Cor. 6:14

HEALTHY BODY IS A HEALTHY MIND

They say a healthy body is a healthy mind, or a healthy body houses a healthy mind, but I think the opposite is true. The man who thinks clearly will also respect his body as God’s temple. Only fools stay ignorant of the truth and “let themselves go” as they keep stuffing in more junk food, sex, and booze. They try to satisfy an unquenchable hunger for the satisfaction that can only be found in God’s love.

All of us NEED fresh air, clean water, nutritious food, physical strength, community, safety, touch, sex, sleep, and personal space (habitat) for our health to flourish. God made all of these things for us to enjoy to the fullest, but we need to be careful not to turn these needs into idols (I must have it). Lust will defile your heart, darken your mind, and cripple your health. Don’t say I did not warn you brother.

If your mind is not healthy you will keep reaching for things that aren’t healthy. If your mind is not aligned with the mind of Christ you will be intrigued by things like porn, money, and ultimate control. Therefore, I am writing to you to make you consider your own ways, that you may be re-aligned if you have strayed from the narrow way. Jesus said, “Many will seek to enter in, and shall not be able to.”

What I’ve discovered through my personal journey is that natural bodybuilding will strengthen your mental state as all the muscles innervate through nerves with the CNS and brain (the control centre). But it’s only God’s Holy Spirit that can fill your heart with God’s love if you invite Him in, and then He will go to work in you to transform your mind and renew your body. First the Spirit, then the physical.

As it is written, “God gives life to the dead and calls into being what does not yet exist.” – Romans 4:17

HEALTHY BODY MASS INDEX

All over the internet and in medical health assessments we read about BMI (Body Mass Index) and many people want to know what is a healthy body mass index, but very few understand what BMI was created for. Medical professionals can use BMI to determine quality of life and the higher this number is, the greater the indication of inactivity and over consumption of foods and even booze.

The ideal BMI is somewhere between 20 and 25. Body mass index is calculated using your weight in kilograms divided by your length². To reach and maintain a healthy BMI you will need to implement regular strength training, cardiovascular exercise, control blood sugar through good dietary choices, choose water/tea over other beverages, and get an accountability partner; this can be your spouse.

Just like a healthy body mass index, we also need to be concerned with the index of our mental and spiritual health and that’s why it’s so important to be part of a supportive community that listens to your problems and concerns without judgement. People who will pray for you. God listens and He will intercede for those who call out to Him in faith. I have seen this plenty of times in my own life.

The beautiful things about God and His Holy Spirit is the fact that He will warn you if you are not walking in step with Him, and those who have neglected spiritual practices like prayer usually find themselves falling back into the ways of the world. People who live with a lack mentality will reach out for more food, booze, and sexual satisfaction. These things, when abused, will defile your soul.

HEALTHY BODY TYPE

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and thought, “that looks unaesthetic… I should lose weight… I wish I looked like Christian Grey. The world floods us with messages of what’s ideal and how our bodies should look, but when we focus on everyone else, we are less likely to focus on ourselves. We unknowingly become envious and loathsome as we complain about it, instead of working for it.

The truth is there are no healthy body types, just healthy bodies. Period. If you have a healthy BMI, and you’re eating and moving like God intended for us to, then you will honour Him with your body as His temple and you will thrive in many areas of your life. Those who are envious are condemned by their judgement and that’s why they are stuck. They desire what you have with lust in their eyes.

Lust is never a good thing. It burns within us and if we don’t learn to control the flame of desire we will burn out or burn down the good things in our lives as we neglect God and family to feel good. My message does come across as offensive, but only to those who are triggered will go defensive. There are thousands of body types, but there is only 1 architype, and His name is Jesus Christ.

When your heart is filled with the Holy Spirit and you are One with Him in purity of heart, then you will be transformed into the image of God. He did not make you to be fat, but to feel naturally high like you are energized and on fire for God. Once your body is sanctified as God’s temple He will come and make His home within your soul and a healthy body type will come as natural as breathing does.

HEALTHY BODY TEMPERATURE

Medically speaking, to have a healthy body temperature means your body maintains its temperature at around 37° degrees Celsius (99°F). If your body is 2 – 3 degrees warmer than this it could be an indication that you have a fever, and your body is in fight mode. That’s how they screen for COVID-19. Hypothermia will occur if the bodies homeostatic temperature drops below 35° degrees Celsius (95°F).

Thermodynamics is the bodies natural ability to break down nutrients for energy (ATP = Adenosine Tri-Phosphate). Everything we eat contains energy in the form of calories. These calories are used or stored by the body for various purposes. The more energy we burn through, the warmer our bodies will feel. That’s why your metabolic rate will increase if you eat more, move more, and think more.

Whenever we are aroused our body heat will also increase and this is due to anabolic sex hormones being released into the bloodstream, which increases the heart rate to push more blood into certain organs that play a role in procreation. Whenever the bodies temperature gets too high, we will start to sweat as we release some of the heat. This is also true when training at the gym, so bring a towel.

It’s important to stay cool when the heat is turned up. Burnout occurs when we don’t take the steps needed for us to cool down. That could mean you need to take off a layer of clothes, drink more water, or simply walk away from the situation that’s making your blood boil. Being healthy doesn’t just mean being physically healthy, but also emotionally, mentally, intellectually, and spiritually. Think about it.

HEALTHY BODY WATER %

Water is essential for life on earth and every organism requires water as the pure medium in which metabolic reactions take place.  In some organisms, up to 90% of their body weight comes from water. In humans up to 60% of the body is water. According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. Amazing right?

The truth is there is no clear evidence on how much water we should drink for us to maintain a healthy body water percentage (%), but the consensus is that if you are thirsty, drink something. In the past 2 decades the health industry has provided us with general guidelines like drinking 8 glasses every day. But this number is thumb sucked and simply a rule of thumb we can use to ensure we stay hydrated.

The research on athletes have indicated that our performance gets significantly affected when we are dehydrated, so make sure you maintain a healthy body water % by being aware of your water intake. You can also use the urine test. The darker it is, the more water you need. But please do take note, water quality is important. Every cell in your body makes use of H2O, so don’t drink polluted water.

The Bible also has a lot to say about water. Jesus makes a grand statement to the adulterous woman at the water well. He said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. The water I give will be in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” This goes back to what I said about lust, seeking satisfaction, and the Holy Spirit of God.

HEALTHY BODY BIBLE VERSE

God's Temple Healthy Body

This is what the Word of God said about this desire of mine to build His temple:

“The Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says: ‘Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. What kind of house will you build for Me, says the Lord, or where will My place of repose be? Has not My hand made all these things?’

God: “Is it a time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses, while this house of Mine lies in ruins?” Now this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Consider carefully your ways. You have planted much but harvested little. You eat but never have enough. You drink but never have your fill. You put on clothes but never get warm. You earn wages to put into a bag pierced through.” This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Consider carefully your ways. Go up into the hills, bring down lumber, and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified, says the LORD. You expected much, but behold, it amounted to little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why? declares the LORD of Hosts. Because My house still lies in ruins, while each of you is busy with his own house.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, who you have received from God? You are not your own, so honor God with your body.” 6:19

“God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then He blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply’.” – Genesis

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. – John 14:23

“Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.” – 3 John 1:2

“From whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” – Ephesians 4:16

“For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” – 1 Timothy 4:8

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31

THE CONCLUSION – GOD’S TEMPLE

Read through all of this again, and then you will get clarity about the importance of taking ownership for your health, not just physically, but also metaphysically. Your soul is prized about all the gold in the world, and that is what Jesus Christ died for. He died to restore your soul by directing you to God’s Spirit who will transform you from within. If you believe, then turn back to God through the Baptism of the Holy Ghost.

John the Baptist and Jesus Christ came to demonstrate the power of baptism, not as a religious ceremony, but as the water, fire, earth, and air ritual performed to invite the Spirit of God into your home. The dove descended upon Jesus and God proclaimed, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” The Spirit of God then led Jesus into the wilderness to be refined through trials of fire, and then He ascended on high.

Each and every believer must go through the Refiners Fire to remove the impurities like you would from silver and gold. Your soul has been damaged by the sins of your past, things like soul ties, unforgiveness, and the love of gold will keep you away from the prosperity God has for you when you walk with Him in heavenly places. As it is in heaven, so shall it be on the earth. God will restore you and then use you.

As it is written, “That in every way you may prosper and enjoy good health, as your soul also prospers.”

Did you get that? You will only prosper in this life if your soul prospers.
